SERMON NOTES

Psalms 42: 1-5
1. As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for you, O God.
2. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
3. My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"
4. These things I remember and I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go along with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God, with the voice of joy and thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.
5. Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him, my salvation and my God.
STEPS TO A DEEPER INTIMACY WITH GOD IN PRAYER:
      1. Long for intimacy with God, vv.1-2.
      2. Tell God about your longing, vv.1-2.
      3. Allow your pain to draw you toward God, vv.3-4
      4. Think about times in the past when you used to be closer to God than you currently are, v.4.
      5. Confront your despairing thoughts in the presence of the Lord, v.5.
      6. Believe that there is coming a day when you will again praise him, v.5.
      7. Focus on God himself, not how you happen to feel in the presence of God, v.5.

GREAT ARE LORD

Verse

You give life, You are love

You bring light to the darkness

You give hope, You restore

Every heart that is broken

Great are You, Lord

Chorus

It's Your breath in our lungs

So we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise

It's Your breath in our lungs

So we pour out our praise to You only

Bridge

All the earth will shout Your praise

Our hearts will cry, these bones will sing

Great are You, Lord

AS THE DEER

Verse 1

As the deer panteth for the water

So my soul longeth after Thee

You alone are my heart's desire

And I long to worship Thee

Chorus

You alone are my strength my shield

To You alone may my spirit yield

You alone are my heart's desire

And I long to worship Thee

Verse 2

You're my friend and You are my brother

Even though You are a King

I love You more than any other

So much more than anything

Verse 3

I want You more than gold or silver

Only You can satisfy

You alone are the real joygiver

And the apple of my eye

IS HE WORTHY

Verse 1

Do you feel the world is broken? We do

Do you feel the shadows deepen? We do

But do you know that all the dark won't stop

The light from getting through? We do

Do you wish that you could see it all made new? We do

Verse 2

Is all creation groaning? It is

Is a new creation coming? It is

Is the glory of the Lord to be

The light within our midst? It is

Is it good that we remind ourselves of this? It is

Chorus 1

Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole?

Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?

The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave

He is David's Root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave

Is He worthy, is He worthy?

Of all blessing and honor and glory?

Is he worthy of this? He is

Verse 3

Does the Father truly love us? He does

Does the Spirit move among us? He does

And does Jesus our Messiah hold

Forever those He loves? He does

Does our God intend to dwell again with us? He does

Chorus 2

Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole?

Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?

The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave

He is David's Root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave

From every people and tribe, every nation and tongue

He has made us a kingdom and priests to God

To reign with the Son

Is He worthy, is He worthy?

Of all blessing and honor and glory?

Is He worthy, is He worthy?

Is He worthy of this? He is

Ending

Is He worthy, is He worthy

He is

He is

STILL

Verse 1

Hide me now under Your wing

Cover me within Your mighty Hand

Chorus

When the oceans rise and thunders roar

I will soar with You above the storm

Father, You are king over the flood

I will be still and know You are God

Verse 2

Find rest my soul in Christ alone

Know His power in quietness and trust
